Wholesome Nutrition From Our Garden
The Learning Lodge serves breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks, selecting our options by following the guidelines of the USDA Child and Adult Food Program. But these aren't just any meals. Nothing is processed or from a box; all of our meals are made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. We have chickens and a garden on site, and our wholesome meals don't just look great and taste better - they help teach good, healthy habits from a young age.
All meals are prepared by the staff at The Learning Lodge. The center will accommodate any special dietary needs of the children enrolled. Please advise us if your child has food allergies.
Important Dietary Information for Proper Child Care
- Cow’s milk will not be given to children under 12 months of age. Whole milk is provided for children aged 12 months to 24 months.
- Solid foods or fruit juices aren't offered to infants less than 6 months old, unless instructed to do so by the child’s health care provider and parents.
- We will track all activities and food intake for infants for your convenience and security.
We produce as much as Minnesota's climate will allow to in our very own garden. And while our garden provides the basis for our wholesome, delicious meals, they provide something perhaps even greater: the opportunity to learn about growing our own food, caring for plants, and understand the process of how a tiny seed becomes a juicy tomato. Our garden also promotes an active, nature-based lifestyle that will serve children long after they've graduated from our ranks.
Important information regarding infant meals: The Learning Lodge offers careful supervision of infant meals for the children of Anoka, Ramsey and Elk River. We welcome breastfed babies and accept breast milk in sanitized ready-to-feed containers. All containers must be labeled with the baby’s full name and expressed date. Breast milk can be stored in a refrigerator for no longer than 48 hours (if the milk was previously frozen, no longer than 24 hours) or for no longer than three months in a freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below.
The Learning Lodge provides whole milk for children ages 12 to 24 months. We do not provide cow’s milk for any infant who is less than 12 months old. Infant food prepared at home will be accepted. Solid food and fruit juice will only be offered to infants less than 6 months with expressed permission from both a licensed pediatrician and parents. The Learning Lodge also provides all table food once an infant is ready for that next step.
We will keep a daily log of all your infant’s activities and intake for you to keep. Should you need to replenish any of the items or if something special was required, it will be reflected in that log.
The schedule of your infant will be taken into account as they receive their child care meals. We will hold them while bottle feeding.
